Fees, insurance and Medicaid

Fees · Insurance · Health First Colorado (Medicaid)
I understand that many people want to use their health insurance. As a licensed therapist, I work with my clients to make that possible. Here’s how therapy fees and insurance work with me, in plain words, so you can focus on whether this work feels right for you.
Therapy fees and insurance at a glance
- Free 15-minute video consult: No cost.
- Virtual therapy, 60 minutes: $200.
- In-person therapy, 90 minutes, in Steamboat Springs or Summit County, often outdoors: $275.
- Equine-partnered therapy session, 90 minutes: $325.

- Other insurance: Out of network, with superbills. See below.
Self-pay clients can choose in person or virtual. Discount packages are available. About therapy
Self-pay policies
Payment and cancellations: Payment is due at the time of booking, so your session is confirmed and your time is held. If you need to cancel, I require at least 48 hours’ notice for a full refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the session are non-refundable.
Sliding scale: Not at this time.
Health First Colorado (Medicaid) members have different policies, and I’ll go over them with you.
Health First Colorado (Medicaid)
I accept Health First Colorado, Colorado’s Medicaid program, for therapy.
Therapy for Health First Colorado members is by secure video anywhere in Colorado, or in person if you live in Summit County or the Steamboat Springs area. Sessions are up to 60 minutes.
Groups, workshops and retreats aren’t billed to Health First Colorado.
Other insurance: out of network, with superbills
I provide superbills, detailed receipts you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients get a portion of their sessions covered this way. How much you get back depends on your plan. I’m happy to walk you through the process and help you check your out-of-network benefits before we start.
I’ve partnered with Mentaya to make reimbursement easier
I know navigating insurance reimbursement can feel like a job in itself, so I’ve partnered with Mentaya, a platform designed to take the hassle out of the process. Mentaya can check your out-of-network benefits, and then submit claims on your behalf after each session, so you don’t have to deal with paperwork, phone calls, or confusing forms. Check your benefits on Mentaya
Other than Health First Colorado, I’m not in network with insurance companies. That keeps your care focused on you rather than on what insurance will approve.
What to ask your insurance company
If you’d like to check your out-of-network benefits, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
- What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?
- What percentage of the session fee do you reimburse for an out-of-network licensed clinical social worker (LCSW)?
- Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
- Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
Groups, workshops and retreats
Groups, workshops and retreats are educational and coaching offerings, not therapy, so they’re private pay. They aren’t billed to insurance, including Health First Colorado (Medicaid), and they aren’t eligible for superbills.
Pricing for groups, workshops and retreats is listed with each offering. Groups, workshops and retreats
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost. If you don’t have insurance, or you’re not using insurance, you can ask me for a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost before you schedule. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
You don’t have to do this alone
If you’re feeling stuck in the same emotional or relationship patterns, exhausted from holding everything together, or unsure how to reconnect with yourself after everything you’ve been through, we can talk.
A free 15-minute video consultation is a space to slow down, briefly talk through what’s going on, and see if working together feels like a good fit. I know cost matters. If you have questions about pricing, payment plans, or whether this work is the right fit, I’m happy to talk it through. No pressure. No commitment.
Frequently asked questions
Does Colorado Medicaid cover therapy?
Health First Colorado covers mental health care, and I accept it for therapy. Therapy with me for Health First Colorado members is by video anywhere in Colorado, or in person in Summit County and Steamboat Springs, in sessions of up to 60 minutes. Call or text, and we’ll talk about your plan on the consult.
Can I use my insurance for groups, workshops or retreats?
No. They’re educational and coaching offerings, not health care, so they aren’t billed to insurance or Health First Colorado, and they aren’t eligible for superbills.
What’s a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt for your therapy sessions that you can send to your insurance company to ask for out-of-network reimbursement. Through Mentaya, the claim can be submitted for you.
Will my insurance reimburse me?
It depends on your plan and your out-of-network benefits. I can’t promise reimbursement, but I’ll give you what you need to submit a claim.
